Sean Kingston arrested in California, awaits extradition to Florida

The rapper's arrest came hours after his mother was taken into custody in a raid at his rented mansion.

Hours after singer and rapper Sean Kingston's mother, Janice Turner, was arrested during a SWAT raid at his rented Florida mansion Thursday morning, Kingston himself was taken into custody. Both are accused of committing fraud and theft.

According to Florida's Broward County Sheriff's Office, Kingston — whose legal name is Kisean Anderson — was arrested in Fort Irwin, California. The "Beautiful Girls" singer was booked into jail in California's San Bernadino, where he will remain until his extradition to Florida.

Kingston's arrest came hours after he had posted on social media about his mother's arrest. "People love negative energy!" he wrote on Instagram Stories. "I am good and so is my mother!... my lawyers are handling everything as we speak." Praying hands punctuated his short statement.

Attorney Robert Rosenblatt is representing both Kingston and Turner, according to the Associated Press.

"We are aware of some of the allegations” being made against the two," Rosenblatt said. "We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother."

Turner was arrested during a raid of his 14,000-square-foot home, where authorities reportedly removed items of value.

Kingston is on a two-year probation period for "trafficking stolen property," per the AP. Turner pleaded guilty in 2006 to bank fraud and served nearly 1.5 years in prison. She was held at the Broward jail on a bond of $160,000.

Ver Ver Entertainment sued Kingston in February for allegedly failing to make payments on the sale and installation of a large television at his residence, according to Broward County court records.

In a statement to EW, Ver Ver Entertainment attorney J. Dennis Card Jr. echoed claims made in the complaint: "I sued [Kingston] for defrauding my client out of a 232 inch home entertainment system. A Broward detective read my lawsuit and reached out to me. My client gave a sworn statement in support of a search warrant."

Card added, "We have been waiting on this raid for a few months, and today was D Day."
