On Wednesday’s fourth episode of “Survivor 45,” Jeff Probst ushered in the first tribe swap of the new era by redistributing new buffs to the 15 players still in the game. As a result, the three-time losers of Lulu were split apart, each going to a different beach. One of them, Sean Edwards, found new life at the Reba beach, but still lost his fourth straight challenge … and then asked to be voted out. Read on for Sean’s “Survivor 45” exit interview from the end of the episode.

Blindsided by his tribe at the previous Tribal Council, Sean was left outside of the numbers at original Lulu with Kaleb Gebrewold and Emily Flippen having a majority vote over him. Post-swap, Sean picked a red buff alongside four players that kept their red buffs, forming a formidable old Reba blockade that would be tough for him to crack. Ultimately, Sean believed that there was enough of a crack there for him to overcome the obstacle, but his heart clearly wasn’t in the game any longer. “I came into this game with every intention of getting to that very end,” Sean said on his way out. “I have no doubt that I could have gotten there if I’d wanted to.”

Sean’s chance at remaining in the game more or less fell on his lap. Janani “J. Maya” Krishnan-Jha was eager to bring the three women of Reba together for a blindside vote on Nicholas “Sifu” Alsup in order to eliminate the threat of an idol they believed him to have. Dee Valladares was willing to flip, but Julie Alley was hesitant, thinking they still needed Sifu’s strength at challenges if they hoped to avoid future TCs.

At tribal, the original Reba tribe made it clear that they’d be taking the “obvious” path of staying “Reba strong” and voting out Sean, perhaps prompting Sean to admit openly that he’d come to the realization that his “true adventure” was not in the game, but back at home with his loving husband. With that in mind, Sean asked that the four of them all vote him out, essentially engineering a “quit” for himself. “I was coming out here to win a million dollars. I got so much more than that,” Sean concluded after his elimination. “I quit on my own terms because at the core of my heart I did exactly what I feel is right.”
