Sean Bean and Famke Janssen to lead fantasy action film Knights of the Zodiac

Lord of the Rings' Sean Bean and X-Men's Famke Janssen – who also co-starred in GoldenEye – have been cast in new fantasy action movie Knights of the Zodiac.
Based on the 1980s manga and anime series Saint Seiya, the movie has also signed up Pacific Rim: Uprising's Mackenyu, Jumanji's Madison Iseman, Fear the Walking Dead's Nick Stahl, On My Block's Diego Tinoco and John Wick's Mark Dacascos (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The original manga and anime, which was created by Masami Kurumada, follows warriors known as The Saints who gather power from constellations, defending the reincarnated goddess Athena from other gods bent on taking over the Earth.
Knights of the Zodiac has been touted as an origin story, with Mackenyu playing the role of Seiya, a street orphan who acts as the hero of the franchise.
Awakened by a mystical energy called Cosmo, Seiya heads on a journey to conquer the ancient Greek armour of Pegasus and choose a side in the preternatural battle for the fate of Sienna (Iseman) – a young girl struggling to control her godly powers.
Bean, no stranger to fantasy with Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, takes on the role of Alman Kiddo, a mentor figure who recruits Seiya into the Knights' Order, an organisation he founded when he discovered the reincarnated goddess.

Tomasz Baginski (The Witcher) will direct, while Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken (10 Cloverfield Lane) have written the most recent script drafts.
Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings fight co-ordinator Andy Cheng will also work on the movie for stunts and fights.

The original Saint Seiya manga series ran between 1986 and 1991, and was subsequently adapted into an anime series, which aired between 1986 and 1989, before continuing on with a number of series and films.
Most recently, Netflix rebooted the series with the 3D-animated Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya.
