Brace yourself, people who still believe in love, because this is going to be a bombshell. It’s probably the worst news you’ve heard since the heartbreaking 2015 Summer of Breakups.

OK, by now we know that Heidi Klum and Seal’s lovey-dovey romance wasn’t as picture-perfect as we wanted to believe. Their 2012 split shook us from our dreams that every day for them consisted of him singing “Kiss From a Rose” to her while she struck supermodel poses, most likely wearing Victoria’s Secret lingerie. But now, Seal has made it so much worse by revealing that one of the things for which the couple was most known — renewing their vows every year on their wedding anniversary — was pretty much one-sided.

“That was my ex-wife’s idea, to be honest,” Seal revealed on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show Andy Cohen Live. “It kind of turned into a little bit of a circus, which I wasn’t terribly fond of because, by default, I’m quite a private person."

The annual vow renewal took place in a vacation spot each year in honor of the former couple’s May 10 anniversary. They swapped vows for the first time in 2005, and wherever it was commemorated each year, dozens of friends and family, including their four children, joined the couple in celebrating with a theme, such as or dressing tacky, as they did in the 2009 ceremony pictured below.

The events became such a big deal that, in 2010, it was revealed the two would soon star in a reality series on Lifetime named after one of Seal’s ballads, Love’s Divine. At the time, one of Klum’s friends told People that the vow renewal was part of what prompted it.

"Heidi and Seal have been inspiring people with their idea of renewing their vows each year,” the source told the magazine. “After getting positive feedback from family and friends, they decided they wanted to help others share the same kinds of special moments. For example, they want to help people who didn’t have their dream wedding the first time around to get a second chance."

The show never materialized and it probably wasn’t the Project Runway host who pulled the plug on it. As Seal explained to Cohen, the singer’s biggest problem with the renewing of the vows was all the hype surrounding it. He did it anyway for her.

"You’re married and you become a team player,” Seal said. “You understand that each of you have different lives and you do whatever you can to support your partner’s life.” Seal added, “I don’t know how necessary [renewing our vows] was, but it was cool."

While the supermodel was still married to Seal, she explained to Redbook why the tradition meant something to her.

"It’s our time — a lovely family time,” she noted in a 2010 chat with the magazine that promised to reveal her secrets for a sizzling marriage. “It’s about remembering this moment of love we gave to each other and reinforcing it."
