Seahawks lose breakout tight end Will Dissly for season with Achilles injury

One of the Seattle Seahawks’ best stories this season might have come to a tragic end. Tight end Will Dissly left Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns with an Achilles injury, likely ending his season.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Monday that Dissly is now out for the season, unless “something miraculous happens.”

Dissly went down with no-contact injury

Dissly, 23, injured himself with 10:54 to go in the second quarter. With the Seahawks driving, Russell Wilson attempted to hit Dissly with a pass near the end zone. The pass was out of Dissly’s reach and fell to the ground. As Dissly was running to try and catch up to the ball, he tumbled to the ground without being touched.

Dissly was helped off the field by team trainers. After being evaluated in the blue tent on the sideline, Dissly eventually went to the locker room to have the injury examined. He was ruled out due to an Achilles injury.

With Dissly out, the Seahawks lose their biggest breakout player this season. After dealing with a patella injury during his rookie season, Dissly developed into a go-to target for Wilson in Year 2. From Week 2 to Week 5, Dissly caught 22 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns.

The injury also puts fantasy players in a tough spot. Dissly had turned into one of the few dependable players at the position this season. Players who picked up Dissly may have to frantically scour their waiver wires now.

The loss of Dissly is especially rough given that the Seahawks traded back-up Nick Vannett to the Pittsburgh Steelers after Dissly’s emergence. In Dissly’s absence, the Seahawks figure to havethe recently signed Luke Willson and recently activated Jacob Hollister to carry the load at tight end. Veteran Ed Dickson is also a possibility to return from injured reserve in a few weeks.
