Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on Dee Eskridge: ‘He looks like the guy we hoped we’d get’

The Seahawks got strong performances from a number of young players in their dominant win over the Chargers last night.

Perhaps the most exciting of them came from rookie wide receiver Dee Eskridge, who totaled 28 yards on just two touches. After it was over, coach Pete Carroll gushed over No. 1’s game.

“He’s a good ballplayer. He’s fast and he’s quick and explosive and his hands are strong and really good. Mentality is really strong about competing. He looks like the guy we hoped we’d get when we picked him.”

Eskridge hasn’t gotten a whole lot of work this offseason as he was slowed by a toe injury, so there could be some stumbling out of the gate once the regular season begins. However, Eskridge won’t be carrying a heavy workload – at least not in his first year with the team. With Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf ahead of him on the depth chart, Seattle can afford to bring him along slowly and let him develop at his own pace.
