First trailer for new Scream movie brings back Ghostface and old favourites

Ghostface has returned in the terrifying first trailer for the new Scream movie ahead of its release in January 2022.
The trailer sees Dewey (David Arquette) call Sidney (Neve Campbell) to bring her back to Woodsboro when a new series of murders starts, leading to the two of them teaming up again with Gale (Courteney Cox) to take on a new killer.
But will the crop of new stars, including The Boys' Jack Quaid, You's Jenna Ortega, 13 Reasons Why's Dylan Minnette, be Ghostface victims or are they potential killers? We don't hold out much hope for Ortega to last long based on the trailer, mind.
Who is behind the mask when Sidney comes face-to-face with the killer at the end of the trailer though? "Hello Sidney, it's an honour," Ghostface tells her.
Paramount had confirmed earlier in the week that the trailer would land today, following its debut at 25th anniversary screenings of the first movie. We also got a new poster to mark the trailer's release that sees Ghostface in a typically stabby mood.
The poster comes with an intriguing tagline that "it's always someone you know", so now that you've seen the trailer, start speculating on who you think will be revealed as the new Ghostface.
We got the first look at the movie on Monday (October 11) and confirmation that the new movie will see a killer put on the iconic mask, all in order to resurrect secrets from Woodsboro's past.
It seems the killer (or killers, you know Scream) is targeting people related to the original killers, so could it be an avenging killer this time around?
Scream – which is going the Halloween route and using the same title as the first movie – is the first outing in the franchise since creator Wes Craven's death in 2015 and Campbell won't be the only returning face.
Courteney Cox explained earlier this year that while Scream does follow the events of 2011's Scream 4, it isn't exactly a direct sequel to that movie.
"This is Scream. These directors, I mean God, the directors [Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett] are just incredible," she told The Drew Barrymore Show.
"It's a new franchise. It's hip, it's scary, it's just a new Scream. It's not a reboot, it's not a remake, it's just a brand new launch. I think it's gonna be fantastic."
Scream will hit cinemas on January 14, 2022.
