Scott Stapp has announced his fourth solo album, Higher Power, arriving March 15th via Napalm Records.
The Creed singer also shared the new single “What I Deserve,” which follows up the previously released title track. The new song features guitarist Yiannis Papadopoulos, and touts emotional high and lows, drifting from brooding balladry to heavy, big-chord choruses. The tune comes with a shred solo from Papadopoulos, along with lyrics that ponder the intricacies of a relationship.
“We all want back what we give,” Stapp commented in a press release. “‘What I Deserve’ is about two people understanding who they are individually and coming to a place where they can express exactly what they each want, need, and deserve. The duality in the song is that both sides are expressing the same thing and coming to an understanding of the faults of the other.”
He added, “This song pleads both guilty and innocent with Yiannis’ guitar solo being the voice that articulates a chaotic search for deliverance and the epic release of passionate closure.”
Papadopoulos appears on three tracks on Higher Power, which was produced by Marti Frederiksen and Scott Stevens with co-production by Stapp.
“Higher Power was born out of never ending consequences with triggered, yet naive defiance,” Stapp said in the press release. “It’s the realities and realizations of being human in this experiment we call life — holding onto hope in the dark waiting for the light.”
Speaking of holding onto hope, Stapp is once again the soundtrack for an MLB team. “Marlins Will Soar”? More like Rangers shall roll.
As we reported, Creed has become the hype music for the Texas Rangers as the team continues its undefeated run through the 2023 postseason. Even the crowd at Globe Life Field has caught on, belting out Creed’s “Higher” at the Rangers’ series clincher over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night (October 10th). The Rangers — who are one of the only current franchises to have never won a World Series — swept the Tampa Bay Rays in American League Wild Card Series and just swept the Orioles in three games to take the American League Division Series. Texas awaits the winner of the Houston-Minnesota ALDS matchup for a chance to advance to the World Series.
