Scott Pilgrim has us seeing sparks all over again. Netflix on Saturday released the official trailer for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, an animated series based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s popular graphic novels. The trailer was revealed as part of the show’s New York Comic Con panel.

Per the official logline, the anime-style series begins when “Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, and discovers he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. But this time, things get even more complicated. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off revisits and reimagines the beloved cult classic, taking Ramona Flowers, her evil exes, Scott, and his friends off on a mysterious new action-packed journey to find love. (And trust us, even after watching this trailer, you can’t possibly imagine how “complicated” they become. Buckle. Up.)

The graphic novels were previously adapted into a 2010 live-action film, the entire cast of which is returning to voice their characters in animated form: Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Mae Whitman as Roxie and Richter Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.

O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski are writers and co-showrunners of the eight-episode first season, executive-producing alongside Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, Adam Siegel, Michael Bacall, Edgar Wright, Nira Park and Eunyoung Choi. Abel Gongora is on board as director, with original music by Anamanaguchi and Joseph Trapanese.
