Have you seen a girl with hair like this? Scott Pilgrim (and Ramona Flowers, and everyone else) returns in a new clip for Netflix’s upcoming anime spinoff Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which you can watch below.
In the first look video, Scott (Michael Cera) gets the lowdown about Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s manic pixie dream girl through her friend Julie (Aubrey Plaza): Ramona moved to Toronto from New York City after a bad breakup, and is now a Amazon Netflix delivery person (a nice nod to the time period for the show and the streamer handling its distribution). After a back-and-forth with Wallace (Kieran Culkin), Scott orders a DVD, and waits patiently for Ramona to arrive.
That’s all we get for now; all eight episodes of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off premiere on Netflix on November 17th. Anime house Science SARU handled the design for the spinoff, which sees writer-director Edgar Wright return as executive producer and Bryan Lee O’Malley — who wrote the original Scott Pilgrim graphic novels — as showrunner.
Much of the 2010 film’s cast will reprise their roles, including Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, and Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim. Brie Larson, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Johnny Simmons, and Ellen Wong also return.
Scott Pilgrim remains a cult classic. In 2020, the cast reunited for a virtual table read of the film’s script in honor of its 10th anniversary, while a reimagined version of the movie returned to theaters in 2021. Even its beloved soundtrack received a reissue of its own; revisit our oral history on the album here.
