Scott Bakula’s Depressing and Hilarious Appearance on ‘Always Sunny’ Premiere

On the 12th season premiere of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, titled, “The Gang Turns Black,” Frank, Charlie, Mac, Dennis, and Sweet Dee find themselves in a classic body swap scenario after getting struck by lightning. When they wake up, they look into the mirror, only to see five black people looking back.

They try to figure out what kind of swap situation they’re in by recalling movies and TV shows with body swap plot lines. Sweet Dee comes up with Quantum Leap, and when she and Frank run into Scott Bakula later, they think they’re on the right path to returning to their former selves.

Unfortunately, Scott isn’t “leaping” anywhere, he’s just working as a janitor, even though he says he’s “researching a role.” When Sweet Dee and Frank realize that Scott isn’t going to be of any help, they bail on their “quantum” theory, leaving Scott dreaming of one more leap, singing, “Let me leap to ’89, that was a better year. I miss my old Camaro, and my mansion in Van Nuys, wish I still hung with Nash Bridges, played poker with The Fall Guy.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FXX.
