Scotland baseball, softball playoff matchups announced

May 8—CHAPEL HILL — The NCHSAA baseball and softball playoff brackets were officially released Monday afternoon, with the Scotland baseball and Lady Scots softball teams awaiting their playoff seedings and matchups after both were already in the projected playing field.

The Scotland baseball team earned the No. 18 seed in the 3A East and will visit the No. 15 Triton Hawks in Erwin on Tuesday in the first round. The winner will face either No. 2 Orange or No. 31 Croaton in the second round on Friday.

Triton is 20-4 this season, with three of their losses coming against Terry Sanford this year and one coming from Pine Forest. According to MaxPreps, Jalen Evans leads the Hawks with a .545 batting average, a 1.038 slugging percentage, 31 RBI, 41 runs, and 23 stolen bases.

The Lady Scots softball team took the No. 2 seed in the 3A East and will host the No. 31 Hunt Warriors on Tuesday in the first round. The winner will face either No. 15 Eastern Alamance or No. 18 C.B. Aycock in the second round on Friday.

Hunt has an overall record of 9-11 this year and have lost three of their previous four games. According to MaxPreps, Madison Thompson leads the Warriors with a .583 batting average, a .727 on base percentage, a .988 fielding percentage, a .888 slugging percentage, and 23 RBI.

The Lady Scots will be at home for at least the first four rounds of the playoffs with wins in their preceding games.
