If you considered making the trek to New York City to catch Aubrey Plaza's off-Broadway debut, but then made a U-turn when you saw the ticket prices, here is some potentially great news.

While you may not have pocketed a Powerball windfall earlier this month, there is a lottery that may score you a good seat to "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea,'' the Wilmington actress' first off-Broadway production. The show, which also stars Christopher Abbot, opens a 10-week run Monday, Oct. 30, at the Lucille Lortell Theatre in the Village.

A limited number of $20 lottery tickets will be available each week. Read on to learn how you can try to score yours.

What is ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea'?

Aubrey Plaza arrives for the Time 100 Gala, celebrating the 100 most influential people in the world, at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City on April 26, 2023.

The official website for "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea'' promises to be "the Off-Broadway event that delves into the depths of our souls.''

The show is directed by Jeff Ward and written by John Patrick Shanley ("Doubt," "Moonstruck").

Plaza plays Roberta, a single mom with a teenage son, while Abbott is Danny, a loner who lives with his mama.  It marks a reunion for the actors, who starred on the big screen in "Black Bear'' a 2020 American black comedy-drama.

Both strangers are chased by the ghosts of their past while comparing scars over drinks in a Bronx bar.  "The unlikely pair uncover their deepest, darkest truths, carving out space for empathy — and maybe more," per the show's synopsis.

In a time when the U.S. Surgeon General has sounded alarms about the dangers of loneliness and isolation, the show's creators say the play has at its heart an "enduring message about the importance of human connection.''

The story is written by Shanley, who won the 1988 Academy Award for "Moonstruck,'' which starred Cher and Nicolas Cage.

"Danny and the Deep Blue Sea" is an early drama from the playwright and screenwriter, who also wrote the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning "Doubt: A Parable."

'Danny' is a hot ticket at box office

The show's promotions must be touching a nerve with theater fans. Many dates of the 10-week run, which ends Jan. 3, are sold out, based on the official theater website ticketing portal. There are still full-price tickets available for select November and December dates.

Ticket prices range from $184 to $244.

The theater is located at 121 Christopher St., New York City. For more information and to order, visit dannyandthedeepbluesea.com

So how can I enter the lottery for $20 tickets?

The website TodayTix is offering a chance to land "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea'' tickets for $20 each through a weekly lottery.

As first reported by Playbill and New York Theatre Guild, the weekly ticket lottery opens each Sunday on the TodayTix mobile app at 12:01 AM for the coming week's performances. It will close at noon on the day prior to each show.

Winners will be notified between 1 and 4 p.m. on the day before the performance they select. They will then have 30 minutes to purchase up to two tickets in the app.

What else is Aubrey up to?

Delaware's best-known actress recently signed on to reprise her role in the "Monsters Inc.'' franchise.

Plaza and some of her co-stars from 2013’s "Monsters University'' will be back voicing their characters for a second season of "Monsters at Work'' on Disney+, according to several Hollywood sources including The Direct. It is set to debut sometime in 2024.

The Hollywood star also is a voice actor in the new Netflix anime series "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off," which premieres Friday, Nov. 17. She reprises her role of Julie Powers, the no-nonsense character she played in the live-action film "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" (2010).

Plaza has also been active on picket lines as part of the Hollywood SAG-AFTRA strike, demanding better wages for her peers.

The actress, who is nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance on HBO's dark comedy "White Lotus," gave the entertainment industry a piece of her mind in a video the SAG-AFTRA shared to its official Instagram account in July.
