Scopely to Buy GSN Games From Sony Pictures Entertainment for $1 Billion

Mobile-first video game company Scopely has agreed to acquire GSN Games, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Game Show Network LLC, for approximately $1 billion, the companies announced on Monday.

The companies said in a statement that the acquisition would strengthen Scopely’s ability to “create and deliver engaging, long-lasting game experiences.”

The $1 billion purchase price of the transaction will be paid half in cash and the remainder in preferred equity, the companies said in the statement. The process will provide SPE “with a minority interest in Scopley and the opportunity to benefit from the expected growth of the company and the mobile games industry.”
