A Georgia mother is considering herself "lucky" after a stranger brought home her four-year-old son, who was dropped off at the wrong bus stop two miles away from where she was waiting to meet him.

Vanessa Ibarra of Forest Park, Georgia says that she waited for her son, Dominic, at his bus stop on Monday afternoon after his first day of pre-kindergarten at Huie Elementary School. At 2:50 p.m., he had not arrived.

Ibarra immediately called the Clayton County Public School system and learned her four-year-old had been dropped off somewhere else.

"Nobody knew anything," Ibarra told WSB-TV through tears.

Thankfully, a good Samaritan saw Dominic wandering down the street, two miles away from his actual bus stop. He knew he was lost, but was able to give the woman directions to his house.

Ibarra said that a truck arrived in her driveway, and Dominic was in the back seat.

“I asked what are you doing with my son and she goes, ‘He was wandering down the street,’” Ibarra told the station.

Ibarra, who calls herself "one lucky mom" after the incident, is grateful for the stranger.

"I was so happy she saw my son," Ibarra said.

According to WSB-TV, Dominic now has a new school bus driver.

Clayton County Public Schools did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment, but provided WSB-TV with the following statement: "Clayton County Public Schools is aware of an incident involving a student being dropped off at the wrong bus stop earlier in the week. As the district continues to gather information relative to this incident, we are addressing this matter internally and appropriately."
