'Schitt's Creek' series finale recap: David's big day begins as the wedding equivalent of fruit wine

Spoiler alert! This story contains details from the series finale of "Schitt's Creek."

There are new vacancies at the Rosebud Motel.

"Schitt's Creek," the comedy created by father-son team Eugene and Dan Levy, checked out Tuesday after six seasons.

In the finale episode, wedding day for David (Dan Levy) and Patrick (Noah Reid) started far from "simply the best." A literal cloud (with lots of rain) hung over the day, washing away David's dreams of an outdoor wedding since he previously opted for a pizza oven instead of a tent. His mom, Moira (Catherine O'Hara) had to step up to fill in for the officiant who canceled.

Alexis (Annie Murphy) was feeling a little bit la la la la la la a little bit emotional when thinking about no longer sharing adjoining rooms with her family.

"I remember there was like a whole year that we didn't even see each other," she told her mother. "I'm just saying, a part of my feels like I'm almost glad that we lost the money."

To relax his "Mariah Carey," Patrick booked David a massage, which included an unexpected sex act. The resulting calm wore off when he discovered Alexis is walking him down the aisle in a wedding dress she mistook for just a white gown.

"Everyone's gonna think we're getting married to each other!" David exclaimed.

Cut to the the town hall (where the ceremony was moved to) where Alexis saw the error of her ways. "I really wanted to impress you today," she said, realizing she was dressed as a bride. David comforted his sister, assuring her his wedding was "ruined" before she revealed her outfit choice. "But, for what it's worth, I am continuously impressed by you," he said.

As the two walked down the aisle, looking like they stepped off the cover of a rom-com at Rose Video, the a cappella singing group the Jazzagals performed Tina Turner's "The Best," a nod to Patrick's open mic night acoustic performance that made David swoon.

David joined Patrick in front of Moira, who wore her best outfit to date, looking like Lady Gaga dressed at the Pope. As she led the ceremony, viewers got to enjoy the Rose matriarch's off-beat accent for one of the last times, as she spoke of "bébé crows carried upon a curious wind."

The men then exchanged vows, with Patrick taking a cue from David's beloved Carey, singing "Always Be My Baby." Then it was David's turn.

"I've never known love like I have when we're together," he told his groom. "It's not been an easy road for me, but knowing that you will always be there for me at the end of it, makes everything OK."

In the final scene, the newlyweds, Alexis and Stevie (Emily Hampshire) bid Moira and Johnny (Eugene Levy) adieu. As revealed in the first part of the finale which aired a week ago, Moira is returning to the soap "Sunrise Bay," and she and Johnny are set out for California, where he will temporarily operate his budding motel chain business. David and Patrick will continue to run Rose Apothecary, living in the house that reminds David of "Kate Winslet's cottage from 'The Holiday,'" and Alexis is venturing to New York on her own. (Her former flame, Dustin Milligan's Ted, did not appear in the last episode.) Our Roses are in bloom.

After Moira reiterated that her wigs, aka "the girls" are to be shipped in "a temperature-controlled cargo container," numerous I love yous were exchanged. Moira and Johnny's black SUV drove away from the Rosebud and Schitt's Creek, but not before Johnny stopped to get a parting look at the town sign, which now showed the faces of the four Roses. How comforting it is to know that somewhere the fabulous foursome remains together.
