Schiff, Jim Jordan exchange fireworks over whistleblower

Senior Democratic and Republican U.S. lawmakers presented dueling narratives on Wednesday as a congressional impeachment inquiry that threatens Donald Trump's tumultuous presidency entered a crucial new phase with the first public hearing.

After opening the hearing, Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, sparred with Republican Jim Jordan over the whistleblower's identity.

"You are the only member who knows who that individual is," Jordan alleged.

"That is a false statement. I do not know the identity of the whistleblower," Schiff responded.
