Some 80 years after workers at Rockefeller Center decided to pool some cash so they could buy a tree—a 20-footer that was decorated with homemade knickknacks and garland—the New York City tradition that grew from there continued its symbolical holiday season kickoff (seemingly worldwide) on Wednesday night.
