‘Scary Movie’ turns 20: How that raunch-tastic sex scene came to be

‘Scary Movie’ arrived in theaters in 2000 and carved out a future for a whole genre of parody films.

Jon Abrahams, who played Bobby (full name: Bobby Prince Jr.) in the movie, spoke with Yahoo Entertainment about the climactic scene (pun intended) of the movie.

“There’s a lot of stuff that got cut out,” he said. “There was a practical effect, a gag where I take my pants off and these like big pair of blue balls come swinging down.”

Abrahams said director Keenan Ivory Wayans wanted to use a body double and that the scene never made it to air.

“I hope it never comes out,” he laughed.

- I can explain that.

KEVIN POLOWY: Happy 20th anniversary to one of your babies, the hilarious--

JON ABRAHAMS: Thank you.

KEVIN POLOWY: --horror parody Scary Movie. Let's go, let's start just going back to the very beginning for you. Like how did this project first come into your life?

JON ABRAHAMS: I was on set and the execs from Miramax were there and they sort of cornered me, we've got this movie that we're making, called Scary Movie. We think you'd be really good for the lead. And I was like, who's making it? What is it? And they were like, oh, it's the Wayans brothers and I was like, don't say anymore. I'm doing it. Why is anybody saying no to this? I want to do it.

I've heard that famously Jared Leto turned down the role that I played in the movie. And I grew up I'm Gonna Git You Sucka was one of my favorite movies and In Living Color was like everything for me when I was in Junior High School. That was like a dream job.

- What's my name, Bobby?

- What?

- What's my name, bitch?

- Oh, God, it's Cindy.

KEVIN POLOWY: The sex scene, just in general, is just insane. I mean, did that just setting that up-- to not even just to-- to both you guys-- did that take any convincing with what you guys were going to be asked to do?

JON ABRAHAMS: It's sort of like that thing where it's like, OK, well here I am, at the cold water's edge and there's nothing to do. Don't think about it too long. Just get in. There's a lot of stuff that got cut out. And there was a-- there was a practical effect, gag, where I take my pants off and these big pair of blue balls come swinging down and they're glowing, blue, and throbbing.

And they were like, now look, we have this body double. He's going to do it. And I was like, at that point, No, man. I'm here. I'm doing this. Let me do it. And they were like, eh. Keenan was like, I don't really want to see the crack of your ass. No offense, but let's just use this guy to do it. But anyway that gag didn't make it in the movie.

KEVIN POLOWY: You said it was all practical so that includes the climactic-- the famous climactic scene?

JON ABRAHAMS: They shot me for an hour. They would shoot me in one phase, with no makeup, sucking my body in. And then stop down and redress with some stage of skeleton makeup and then they'd blend it all together and it looks like I deflate. The sperm shooting out of the cannon is what it was. It was a cannon and they had a stunt lady up on a rig. And they shot the cannon and yanked her up to the ceiling.

It's hard, some of that stuff is hard. Even the tongue kiss thing, I mean, it's visual effects, so it's like you're sitting there going [INAUDIBLE] for three hours with somebody. It's trying. It can be trying.

- I'm feeling woozy here.

- It's my turn.

- Gimme the knife.

- Get [BLEEPED] outta here. Ain't nobody stabbing me.

[GASP]

KEVIN POLOWY: So how come Ray came back for Scary Movie 2 but not Bobby?

JON ABRAHAMS: That's a good question. I don't really know. I think that at one point, I was going to be a ghost. I was going to be like a Jedi ghost in the film. But past that I'm not really sure. I definitely-- I mean, I may have been working. Sometimes it's just that.

KEVIN POLOWY: OK.

JON ABRAHAMS: It's nothing more than that. But I remember visiting. I went to visit the set and watch them shoot some stuff. I don't know. Yeah. I don't know, I wish I was in Part 2. I would have loved to have been in Part 2.
