Jon Abrahams looks back at notorious 'Scary Movie' sex scene, reveals extra-raunchy moment that was snipped

The producers of Scary Movie — the hit 2000 horror parody that famously skewered Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, among other flicks — had already run through a long list of actors (including Jared Leto) in the search for their male lead, Bobby Prinze Jr., by the time they got to Jon Abrahams.

The others had turned them down, but for Abrahams, it was an easy call once he heard who was making the movie: The Wayans brothers. “I was like, ‘Don’t say any more, I’m doing it.’ Why is anybody saying no to this?,” Abrahams told us during an interview for Yahoo’s MVPs of Horror series (watch above). “[When] I grew up, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka was one of my favorite movies and In Living Color was everything for me when I was in junior high school. That was like a dream job.”

That meant Abrahams, who made his film debut in 1995’s Kids and also co-starred in another hit comedy that turned 25 this year, Meet the Parents, was willing to put himself out there for director Keenen Ivory Wayans. Same for costar Anna Faris, who was making her film debut in Scary Movie as its heroine, Cindy.

“It’s sort of like, ‘Here I am at the cold water’s edge, don’t think about it too long, just get in,’” says Abrahams, now 43.

Abrahams and Faris share one of the movie’s most memorable sequences, an American Pie-spoofing love scene in which a sexually frustrated Bobby takes Cindy’s virginity. It begins with a gag involving a hedge trimmer and pubic hair, escalates into heavy slapping, features a geyser-like climax, and ends with a deflated, bone-dry Bobby.

And the scene was originally even lewder.

“There’s a lot of stuff that got cut out,” Abrahams says. “There was a practical gag where I take my pants off and these big pair of blue balls coming swinging down and they’re glowing blue and throbbing.”

Though Abrahams was game to film it, Wayans insisted on a body double. “Keenen was like, ‘I really don’t want to see the crack of your ass. No offense, but let’s just use this guy to do it,’” Abrahams laughed.

Abrahams has since gone on to be an accomplished filmmaker in his own right, directing and starring in the 2016 post-9/11 drama All at Once and this year’s darkly comedy mob story Clover. He’ll next helm the horror-thriller Exploited.

He’ll clearly always have a special place in his heart for Scary Movie, though, no matter what sort of shenanigans it required.

“It’s hard,” he says. “Some of that stuff is hard.”
