Scarlett Johansson's Stunt Doubles Help Mask Her Pregnancy for 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Black Widow is known for her stealth, but hiding a growing baby bump is a tall order. Fortunately Scarlett Johansson, who plays the super-spy in the Avengers franchise, had plenty of help during the production of Age of Ultron. New photos from the movie’s London set show multiple stunt doubles who were on hand to stand in for the actress.

Johansson’s pregnancy became public knowledge in March, right around the time that the Avengers sequel started shooting. Director Joss Whedon was determined to keep all of Black Widow’s scenes without compromising the look of the character. ”She’s not going to spend the whole movie carrying groceries,” Whedon joked in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. “We didn’t trim any scenes. We’re like, ‘We’ll make it work.’”

The production team’s solution was to hire three different stunt doubles for Black Widow. The doubles will perform all of the physically demanding scenes in the film, and their faces will be digitally replaced with Johansson’s face in post-production. The final result should be seamless, but in the meantime, all those Black Widow doubles are causing some confusion on set. ”It’s always funny,” co-star Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, told EW. “You walk by, ‘Hey, Scarlett — oh, weird. You’re not Scarlett at all. Sorry.’ A lot of fake Scarletts around.”
