‘Scandal’ Needs to Kill More Characters (Commentary)

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on if you haven’t watched Thursday’s episode of “Scandal”)

Wait for it …

“Scandal” killed off Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) on Thursday night’s episode — only the second series regular casualty — and quite frankly, that’s not enough and we demand there be more deaths.

Let’s put this in perspective for you.

We are deep into Season 6 of “Scandal,” and only Harrison Wright (Columbus Short) and Elizabeth North, who’s really not even that important to the show if we’re being super honest, have died.

Now, it may be dark, twisted and morbid to want more characters to die, but when we look at Shonda Rhimes’ track record on fellow ABC shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away With Murder,” there seems to be no hesitation when it comes to killing off the favorite characters that we actually care about.

In Shondaland’s most recent “let’s kill off some really important characters because we need to spice things up and make our audience cry and grieve for weeks spree,” Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) became a casualty on “How to Get Away With Murder.” Wes freakin’ Gibbins! After Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), Gibbins was the most important character on the damn series and he gets tossed away like yesterday’s chopped liver.

And let’s not even get started with the deaths on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

So you see, when “Scandal” decides to kill of Elizabeth “No One Really Cares If She Dies” North, it’s a little anti-climactic and annoying. Especially when the only other major death on the series was Harrison and he only had to be killed off because he was fired from the show.

**Note: There were obviously more people who died in “Scandal” like James Novak (Dan Bucatinsy) and Daniel Douglas Langston (Jack Coleman), but they aren’t considered series regulars.
