CHESTERFIELD — During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society's largest fundraiser in Virginia is held at Keystone Acres in Chesterfield. The 8th annual Richmond Cattle Baron's Ball is also the nonprofit's third largest fundraiser in the country.

Two-time cancer survivor Keith Jones and his wife Joy share their equestrian arena at Keystone Acres which is transformed into a western town for the cowboy chic affair. They both know how important the American Cancer Society's mission is to cancer survivors.

"Each year, we hope a million-plus is raised to help fund life-saving research to save lives," Keith Jones said. The 2023 Ball's co-chairs Mark Motley and Anne-Paige Motley and their team of volunteers are hoping to raise $1.5 million.

"Supporters of the Ball will certainly kick up their heels, but they will be doing it for people like Jaxon who is battling a rare cancer. The Richmond area middle school student will be the featured speaker this year," Adrienne Rich, American Cancer Society Associate Director of Development, said.

American Cancer Society fundraiser means live music, games, cuisine and cocktails

At the 2023 Richmond Cattle Baron's Ball hosted by the NBC12 morning team, two-time cancer survivor Danielle Eljor will sing the U.S. national anthem. Ticket holders will listen to live music, bid on silent and live auction items, strike poses at the photo station, play games and more.

Attendees will enjoy gourmet cuisine and cocktails by Mosaic Catering and Events and hit the dance floor while Nashville recording artist Easton Corbin performs his high-energy show.

The event presented by Haley Automotive Group has numerous sponsors. A few of them include Estes-Express, Carol and Clarence Williams, Fitzgerald Financial Group, Rob and Gloria Hargett, George and Susan Poulos, Greenfield Building Systems, Luck Chevrolet and Luck Stone. Table sponsors and individual ticket holders also make this fabulous fundraising extravaganza possible.

This year’s event sold out quickly; however, the community can still get involved to help the American Cancer Society by participating in the online silent auction or making a donation. Those not in attendance may also bid on the live auction items.

Eight-week old Goldendoodle Bella will be a live auction item at the 2023 Richmond Cattle Baron's Ball held at Keystone Acres in Chesterfield on October 21.
