Alleged savagery: Rudy Gobert zings Isaiah Thomas post-trade

In a blockbuster trade, Kyrie Irving is headed to the Boston Celtics for a package including Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 pick. With Thomas now on his way to Cleveland, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert couldn’t help but troll Thomas with a nod to great NBA emoji war of summer 2017.

As you’ll recall, Thomas and Gobert (and Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside) engaged in some playful Twitter antics bidding for the services of now-former Jazz star Gordon Hayward. Hayward, of course, chose the Celtics, but now Thomas won’t even get to play with him and Gobert just haaaad to rub it in. Savage.

Our rating: Who knew a simple retweet could pack such a punch? Gobert earns a McGregor.

Alleged savagery: Marshawn Lynch shuts down cliched anthem question

Sometimes it’s best to just take the most direct path. Especially when you’re a reporter. Especially especially if Marshawn Lynch is your subject. Lynch was asked about sitting for the national anthem during the Raiders’ first preseason game. The reporter prefaced the query with the hackneyed cliche “The elephant in the room” and Marshawn took it from there (language NSFW).

Our rating: One brooding Draymond.

Alleged savagery: Packers DB and Eagles WR beef after illegal hit

NFL preseason games might not count in the standings, but that doesn’t mean they can’t account for some drama. In last week’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers, Eagles WR Bryce Treggs delivered a hard block to Packers DB Damarious Randall, leaving him with a concussion.

Treggs was fined $25,000 for the play and tweeted his intentions to start a GoFundMe given that he’s currently on the NFL’s league minimum salary.

It’s safe to say Randall will not be donating to the cause.

Our rating: Preseason beef is still beef, and this one earns a scowling Belichick.

Alleged savagery: Brandon McCarthy’s total eclipse of the heart

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brandon McCarthy marked the first total solar eclipse visible in the United States in a lifetime by tweaking former Twitter adversary and current ESPN sports reporter Darren Rovell. Much like the moon and the sun, Rovell had blocked McCarthy over a debate about student-athlete pay a few years back, so McCarthy had to resort to asking loyal Twitter followers to relay a special question:

Rovell actually responded, and it was suboptimal.

Our rating: Before Rovell’s response, this was solidly in the Belichick category, but since he’s mad, we’ll make this one a Tweeting Draymond.
