'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: Trick or Treat!

Trick or treating: Any questions?

This week, Saturday Night Live is airing a half-hour animated special featuring David S. Pumpkins, the viral sensation brought to life by Tom Hanks last year. But that wasn’t the only memorable Halloween sketch on SNL.

Take this “Weekend Update” bit from 1998. Jimmy Fallon busts out his guitar to sing about trick or treating in spoofs of Matchbox Twenty, the Counting Crows, Alanis Morissette, and Marcy Playground.

“Well, she said, ‘It’s cold outside,’ and I said, ‘It’s October,’” he croons to the Matchbox Twenty’s “3AM.”

Then, to the melody of Morissette’s “Thank U,” he rants against mini candy bars (“aren’t they moronic?”) and cheap people who give out bags of pennies. But he is grateful for a few things.

“Thank U, Mike and Ike,” he continues. “Thank you, Smarties.”

Thank you, Halloween.

SNL returns Nov. 4 with host Larry David and musical guest Miley Cyrus.
