‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Superheroes, Assemble (For a Party)!

With Comic-Con taking place in San Diego this weekend, superhero movies are going to dominate the pop culture conversation. So, for this week’s Saturday Night Live throwback, we dug deep — back to 1979 — for a sketch revolving around a superhero party.

It’s hosted by Superman (Bill Murray) and Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) — and Lois is worried about whether or not their different sets of friends will get along. Then, the guests start arriving. The Flash (Dan Aykroyd) comes with his wife Beverly (Gilda Radnor). Lana Lang (Jane Curtin) can’t stop flirting with Superman. And The Hulk (John Belushi) accompanies Cookie Hulk (Laraine Newman), who’s on crutches thanks to hubby.

“First thing Monday morning — twin beds!” Cookie moans.

Then there’s poor Ant-Man, but nobody can remember who he is. Only on SNL could these superheroes mix over cheese and punch.

SNL returns for its 43rd season this fall on NBC.
