‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Summer Camp, Having a Blast

Summer officially started this week (“Strawberry Moon” Summer Solstice, holla!), so this Saturday Night Live throwback clip celebrates the best season of the year. At least it was the best season when you were a kid, because school was off and summer camp was on!

This sketch took place in May 2014, when Andy Samberg returned to Studio 8H to host for the first time since leaving SNL. It was a star-studded, nostalgia-inducing episode, with plenty of cameos from Samberg’s fellow alums. But one of the best sketches of the evening featured newer players Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon as tweens at Camp Wicawabe.

They giggle over being labeled “turds” by counselors and getting punished by having to go to bed at 2:15 in the afternoon. Samberg comes in as Bryant’s older, 14-year-old cousin, Jeremy.

“Sorry if I look cooler than normal. I just tried my first cigarette,” Jeremy drawls. “It didn’t affect me at all, and I ate the whole thing.”

The funniest part of the sketch comes at the end, during an “In Memoriam” segment for campers who had to leave early, like Tiffany, “who can’t poop anywhere but her own house.”

Saturday Night Live returns for its 42nd season this fall.
