The inner workings of NASA have fascinated moviegoers in movies like Apollo 13, Armageddon, and this year, Hidden Figures.
The latter film’s Oscar-nominated star, Octavia Spencer, is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend for the first time, so maybe we’ll get a space-themed sketch like this one from 2013.
The bit both parodies Gravity and sends up the government shutdown of that year. Cecily Strong and Taran Killam play two astronauts (a la Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) stranded in space. When they call NASA headquarters for help, they find it’s empty. Or almost empty except for one lonely janitor.
“It turns out I’m the only essential employee in the place,” Kenan Thompson jokes. “But I could’ve told you that months ago.”
Can the janitor figure out a way to get them home? Too bad he doesn’t have the brilliant mathematicians of Hidden Figures in the room!
Spencer hosts with musical guest Father John Misty this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC. Watch clips and full episodes of SNL for free on Yahoo View.
