The 49th season of “Saturday Night Live” will premiere on October 14, 2023, just a couple of weeks later than usual due to the writers’ strike and actors’ strike. In a move of solidarity, none of the cast members from last year’s truncated 48th cycle have departed (aside from Cecily Strong, who left mid-season). The one addition to this year’s cast is Chloe Troast, a comedian, writer and actress who has worked with “SNL” writers Martin Herlihy, John Higgins and Ben Marshall of the comedy group “Please Don’t Destroy.” (NBC is expected release Troast’s photo and bio in the coming days.)

Darrell Hammond returns again as the show’s announcer, while Lorne Michaels still serves as the showrunner and executive producer.

Now entering his 21st season, Kenan Thompson is cementing his status as the longest-running “SNL” cast member of all time. For comparison’s sake, the next closest is Hammond, who appeared in 14 seasons as an actor before returning years later as the announcer.

“Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost (11 seasons) and Michael Che (10 seasons) have also both now hit the double-digit marks for their work on the show. They are followed in descending order by Mikey Day (eight seasons), Heidi Gardner (seven seasons) and Ego Nwodim (six seasons).

Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang are both starting their fifth seasons, while Andrew Dismukes and Punkie Johnson are entering their fourth seasons. Then comes James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman (three seasons), and Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Marcello Hernandez and Devon Walker (two seasons). Chloe Troast is the only new featured player for the 2023-24 season.

The October 14 season premiere will be hosted by former cast member Pete Davidson, who was originally set to host prior to the writers’ strike, and he’ll be joined by musical guest Ice Spice. And Bad Bunny is poised to host and perform on the October 21 episode.
