‘Saturday Night Live’ Holds Oscar Host Auditions Following Kevin Hart’s Exit

After briefly addressing the Kevin Hart Oscar controversy during Weekend Update last week, Saturday Night Live tonight dedicated a video skit to the search for a new Oscar host following Hart’s quick exit from the job amid furor over old homophobic tweets.

“The search for a new host begins. Who will risk everything for the chance to gain nothing,” SNL‘s audition segment asked, summing up the reasons hosting the Oscars has been called a thankless job because of the tremendous scrutiny it brings to anyone who takes it. (The gig also does not pay well, with Jimmy Kimmel reportedly being paid $15,000 for his services last tear.)

The SNL video included a slew of celebrities auditioning to host the 2019 Academy Awards: Tiffany Haddish, Michelle Wolf, Chris Hemsworth, Hannah Gadsby, Rami Malek, Michael Strahan, Rachel Brosnahan as Mrs. Maisel, Matthew McConaughey and Ellen DeGeneres, Sarah Silverman, Terry Crews, Kanye West and Allison Janney and even Roseanne.

The pre-recorded skit also was notable for the brief appearance of cast member Pete Davidson (as Malek) after he had made headlines on Saturday with an alarming Instagram post that triggered a welfare check by NYPD.
