Saturday Night Live will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a three-hour primetime special taking place on Sunday, February 16th, 2025, NBC has announced.
SNL hosted a similar special for its 40th anniversary in February 2015. The three-and-a-half hour event featured appearances from many of the show’s past cast members and hosts, as well as musical performances from the likes of Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, and Miley Cyrus.
SNL is currently winding down its 49th season. This season’s penultimate episode airs this Saturday and features returning cast member Maya Rudolph as host and Vampire Weekend as musical guest. Jake Gyllenhaal will host SNL’s season finale on May 18th with musical guest Sabrina Carpenter.
Next year will also see the release of an SNL origin film from director Jason Reitman, chronicling the events leading up to the show’s first-ever episode.
