Sarah Timberman & Carl Beverly Ink Big Overall Deal With ABC Studios, Leaving Longtime Home CBS TV Studios
This is a major pod move — prolific TV production company Timberman-Beverly Prods. is departing CBS TV Studios after eight years for a rich overall deal at ABC Studios. Under the three-year pact, said to be in the eight-figures, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will develop projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming services.
“Sarah and Carl will be an incredible asset to our studio,” said ABC Studios president Patrick Moran. “Their deep relationships in the creative community and extensive experience as producers is unparalleled.”
Timberman and Beverly’s exit will be a hit to the roster of CBS TV Studios where Timberman-Beverly had been among the top pods, delivering one of the studios’ most profitable series of the past five years, Elementary, as well as promising freshman drama SEAL Team, which is expected to be renewed by CBS. Timberman and Beverly, who are well liked in the creative community, have had a great relationship with CBS Studios president David Stapf and head of drama Bryan Seabury. In the end, it came down to a business decision and an offer the duo could not refuse.
Timberman and Beverly have worked together for two decades, dating back to their days as executives at Universal Television and, prior to that, at Columbia-Tristar Television. The two left their executive posts at Universal Network TV in 2003 when Timberman launched 25C Prods with Beverly as her creative partner. The company was renamed Timberman-Beverly Prods in 2007 when Beverly was named full partner.
Over the last 15 years, Timberman and Beverly have produced 11 series including Justified at FX; Masters of Sex at Showtime; Kidnapped at NBC; Hindsight at VH1; Elementary, Unforgettable, The Odd Couple, Doubt, A Gifted Man and SEAL Team at CBS; as well as the upcoming Netflix limited series Unbelievable.
Timberman-Beverly is currently in production on the CBS/CBS Studios drama pilot The Code, written by Craig Sweeny and Craig Turk and directed by Marc Webb.
Under their ABC Studios deal, Timberman and Beverly will continue to work on their existing CBS TV Studios series, Elementary, SEAL Team and Unbelievable, pilot The Code as well as other projects in various stages of development. Similarly, during most of their tenure at CBS Studios, Timberman and Beverly worked on series at Sony TV that they had developed during their stay there — Justified, Masters Of Sex and Hindsight.
After a brief, two-year stint at Warner Bros. TV where 25C was launched, Timberman and Beverly moved to Sony Pictures TV where they were based for five years, until the 2010 major shift at the studio, which then largely got out of the pod business. Timberman-Beverly landed at CBS TV Studios where the company had been ever since.
Luring Timberman-Beverly is part of ABC Studios’ efforts to ramp up its talent roster following the exit of Shonda Rhimes and her Shondaland last summer. In the past seven months, the studio has signed deals with Carlton Cuse and Michael Seitzman and Christina Davis’ Maniac Productions, and has re-upped How To Get Away with Murder creator Peter Nowalk, among other pacts.
Timberman-Beverly is repped by CAA, Del Shaw Moonves and Hansen Jacobson Teller.
