Sarah Silverman and Taraji P. Henson praise Disney's handling of controversial princess designs in 'Ralph Breaks the Internet'

In the highly anticipated sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet, Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) encounter Disney's princess team when they take their adventures online. The news, which was announced at D23 in 2017, was met with excitement. However, when an image of the princesses re-created into three-dimensional characters was released by Entertainment Weekly, there was backlash. Fans were upset with the design of Princess Tiana, the lead of 2009's The Princess and the Frog. Numerous people took to Twitter and criticized Disney and the creatives behind Ralph Breaks the Internet for lightening Tiana's skin and giving her caucasian features. Someone who also noticed this was the actress who voices Tiana, Anika Noni Rose. Rose didn't comment until she revealed that she had spoken with Disney about Tiana, and that the company had met with her and collaborated with her to adjust her features, saying that she appreciated "that this far into the process Disney had enough care and respect for all who love Princess Tiana and her legacy to spend time and money to make the adjustments necessary.” When Yahoo Entertainment chatted with Taraji P. Henson and Sarah Silverman at a press event for Ralph Breaks the Internet, they praised Disney for its handling of the controversy.
