Sarah Paulson Got Tequila Drunk with Marcia Clark

It’s always a little surreal when you meet the person you’re playing on television. Now imagine getting drunk with that person — it might be too much to handle. Sarah Paulson was on Ellen, and talked about meeting attorney Marcia Clark for the first time. Paulson is portraying Clark in the miniseries The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which has earned high praise for its interpretation of the events surrounding the O.J. Simpson trial.

Paulson talked about being blown away when she finally met Clark. “I had spent so much time with my nose sort of in a book about her,” explained Paulson, “that when I saw her it was like seeing someone I’d idolized or had a terrible crush on for my whole life or something.” Paulson commended Clark for her strength during the O.J. trial, which was tested by tabloid fodder and a rocky home life. But Paulson said she and Clark really bonded when the tequila came out, adding that they drank quite a bit together during the meeting.
