Sarah Michelle Gellar-Led Thriller ‘Sometimes I Lie’ in Development at Fox

Sarah Michelle Gellar has a second project in development at Fox. The broadcast network has given a script commitment (with penalty attached) to the limited series “Sometimes I Lie,” starring Gellar and produced by Ellen DeGeneres.

The one-hour drama is based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name and centers on Amber Reynolds (Gellar), who is in a coma and, according to the logline, “she can’t remember how she got there, but she knows it wasn’t an accident.”

“Terrified and trapped in her own body, she tries to piece together her memories of the last week,” the description says. “With a husband who no longer loves her, a sister hiding a dangerous secret, and an ex-boyfriend who can’t let go of her, Amber knows someone is lying – and that her life is still very much in danger. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it’s the truth?”

Robin Swicord is writing the script and will executive produce the series, alongside Gellar and DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman, who produce for DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production banner.

“Sometimes I Lie” is a co-production between Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment, in association with A Very Good Production.

In August, the broadcast network placed a script commitment for a TV adaptation of “Other People’s Houses” with Gellar attached to star. That project, which hails from “Ringer” creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, is a dramedy adaptation of the 2018 book of the same name by Abbi Waxman.

If either project (or both) went to series, it would mark Gellar’s first series regular role since her short-lived CBS sitcom “The Crazy Ones,” co-starring the late Robin Williams, was canceled after one season in 2014.
