Sarah McLachlan Admits She Can’t Watch Her ASPCA Commercials Either

If you get weepy and feel a strong urge to change the channel every time one of Sarah McLachlan’s ASPCA commercials comes on, you’re not alone. The singer and ASPCA spokesperson admits that she can’t watch them either.

In an interview with Makers, the 47-year-old opened up about how depressed the sad puppy commercials make her feel. “It was brutal doing those ads because it was like, ‘Can you just be a little more sad?’ and I was like, 'This is just killing me … save the puppies’ … But I can’t watch them. It kills me."

McLachlan, who appears next to abused and neglected animals in the spots that feature her song "Angel,” says they’ve helped her acquire a “whole new audience.” Even old ladies at Target now recognize her as “that dog lady."

While they might be depressing, the ads have certainly been a success, bringing in over $30 million for the non-profit organization since their 2006 release.
