UPDATED throughout: The Broadway production of Plaza Suite will add an extra five performances to its limited engagement to compensate for this week’s Covid cancellations, productions said today.

The production, starring Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker – both of whom have tested positive for Covid – has canceled performances through Sunday, April 10, but will extend its run through Friday, July 1. The comedy originally had been set to close June 26.

“To make the rescheduling process easier for ticket holders, Plaza Suite is announcing a special five-performance extension,” producers said today. Ticket holders for the five canceled performances will be given exclusive priority access to those five extension performances at the originally booked ticket price in comparable seat locations. The ticket holder’s point of purchase will contact them to reschedule their tickets or arrange a refund.

“The producers wish to thank Matthew, Sarah Jessica, and the entire company of Plaza Suite for generously offering to extend their run in the show to accommodate audiences impacted by the cancellations,” the producers’ statement said.

News about performances of Plaza Suite beyond Sunday, April 10, will be announced shortly.

Also today, the musical Paradise Square, which became the latest Broadway production hit by Covid when last night’s performance was canceled due to cases detected within the company, canceled performances through Sunday, with the show now set to resume Tuesday, April 12, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

Last night, Paradise Square producers said the performance was being canceled “out of an abundance of caution due to Covid cases in the company,” and that ticket buyers should return to point of purchase for exchanges or refunds.”

Thursday’s performance of Plaza Suite was canceled after Parker tested positive for Covid. Parker’s husband and co-star Broderick tested positive on Tuesday and missed this week’s performances of the Neil Simon play. Parker performed with an understudy.

Plaza Suite is one of several New York stage productions impacted by New York City’s latest uptick in Covid cases. A Strange Loop, Michael R. Jackson’s Pulitzer-winning musical, has canceled this week’s Broadway previews, and last week producers of Macbeth starring Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga put the production on pause.

Both A Strange Loop and Macbeth currently are expected to resume performances on Monday April 11.

Off Broadway, the Public Theater has canceled performances of the new musical SUFFS , composed by and starring Shaina Taub, co-starring Hamilton‘s Phillipa Soo, through April 10.

The cancellations come as New York City experiences an uptick in Covid cases due to a spike in the omicron variant BA.2. While New York City’s daily case average is up, hospitalizations and deaths remain on a decline.
