Sarah Jessica Parker is backing Cynthia Nixon for governor

Update (10:30 a.m.): Sarah Jessica Parker is officially voting for her friend and former Sex and the City co-star, Cynthia Nixon, in the gubernatorial race this fall. On Wednesday, Page Six reported that Parker did not exactly state her support of Nixon, but, this morning, Parker posted a photo on Instagram of Nixon with that read, in part, “My sister on and off screen, you have my love, support and vote.”

The original story continues below.

Sarah Jessica Parker has now publicly acknowledged longtime friend Cynthia Nixon’s run for governor, but she hasn’t exactly committed her vote yet. In a statement via a publicist to Page Six, Parker said, “Cynthia has been my friend and colleague since we were little girls. I look forward to talking to her about her New York state gubernatorial bid.”

“I look forward to talking” is not exactly “Go, Miranda; fix the subways!,” but it’s also not a flat-out rejection of support. Still, Nixon and Parker appear to have a perfectly in-tact relationship, according to an Instagram Nixon posted in February of the two posing together at a T magazine photo shoot.

Parker, like most of the Internet, could also have the ever-alluring possibility of a Sex and the City 3 reunion on her mind, in her decision to be coy here. But this may also just be the case of an actor being intentionally private about her politics.

When Parker and Nixon do get around to talking, they’ll have plenty to discuss. In her short few weeks as a candidate, Nixon has already taken a bold stand against current New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. In her campaign announcement video last Monday, she called out issues with the M.T.A. that, in particular, have angered New Yorkers during Cuomo’s years in office. In an opening statement about her run, Nixon called her own agenda a “bold progressive“ message while tagging Cuomo as a "centrist."

Since then, one-time mayoral candidate Christine Quinn called Nixon an “unqualified lesbian,“ so in turn, Nixon is now selling campaign buttons with the phrase on them. Now, the real question: When will Parker pick up some of this merch?
