Sarah Hyland Rom-Com ‘The Wedding Year’ Acquired by Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios

Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has acquired the domestic rights to “The Wedding Year,” a romantic comedy starring “Modern Family” actress Sarah Hyland and “Dear White People” star Tyler James Williams, the studio announced Wednesday.

ESMP will release the film in the U.S. later this fall.

Robert Luketic (“Legally Blonde”) directs the rom-com about Mara Hickey (Hyland), an L.A. photographer who has vowed never to get married. But when she and her new ready-to-settle-down boyfriend (Williams) are invited to 15 weddings in the same year, the pressure is on Mara to make some big decisions.

Keith David, Patrick Warburton, Tom Connolly, Grace Helbig, Wanda Sykes, Jenna Dewan, Anna Camp and Fred Grandy co-star. Donald Diego wrote the screenplay.

ESMP acquired the film from Lakeshore Entertainment, which first picked up the spec script from Diego, who is a TV writer on shows like “Community” and “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life.” Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi, Marc Reid, and Mark Korshak are producers. It was originally produced under Lakeshore’s Off the Deck label. Hyland, who is currently in her 10th season of “Modern Family,” will also serve as an executive producer, as will ESMP’s Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks, and Jennifer Lucas.

“‘The Wedding Year’ is a contemporary romantic comedy,” Allen said in a statement. “It is a very funny movie that speaks to the present generation’s struggle to figure out and find love.”
