Sarah Hyland Goes as TV Mom Julie Bowen's “Happy Gilmore” Character for Halloween: 'Like Mother Like Daughter'

Sarah Hyland channeled her TV mom Julie Bowen’s Happy Gilmore character for Halloween.

The 32-year-old actress, who starred alongside Bowen on Modern Family, shared several photos of herself dressed as Virginia Venit from the 1996 sports comedy while her husband Wells Adams paid homage to the title character, played by Adam Sandler.

“Like mother like daughter⛳️🏒,” she captioned the Instagram post.

Adams gave the couple’s dog Boo a special shout out in the comment section, writing, “So, Boo is Chubbs, right? I didn’t even realize it till now!”

The film chronicles Sandler’s Happy Gilmore as he pivots from an unsuccessful hockey career to life as a golf pro by way of his powerful, unorthodox golf swing after winning a long drive contest.

The Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin star has been open about her close bond with Bowen, 53, after starring on the ABC sitcom for 11 seasons together from 2009 to 2020.

“Julie has been like a mother to me over the past 11 years. She is one of the strongest, smartest, most opinionated women I've ever met,” she told Glamour in 2020. “But she is smart about being opinionated. There's a time and a place for things, and I'm still learning how to master that because I have no filter.”

She continued, “She’s taught me how to keep, at times, my mouth shut. Watching her in interviews, in work settings — really just in life — her brain is the most fascinating thing to me.”

Later that year, Bowen said she gave Adams her blessing to marry her TV daughter before the couple tied the knot in August 2022.

When asked by a fan in an Instagram video for The Skimm if she had met the Bachelor in Paradisestar, she responded, “Wells asked me my permission to marry her.”
