It was a birthday emergency, and Sarah Drew came to the rescue! (OK, it wasn’t really a birthday emergency, but turning 5 is no joke.) On January 18, Sarah Drew’s son, Micah, celebrated his 5th birthday. In honor of the occasion, the Grey’s Anatomy actress threw a Harry Potter-themed party to end all Harry Potter-themed parties and took to Instagram to share her bash-planning skills.

First, let’s start with the decor. The 36-year-old star posted a shot depicting some of the ambiance, which included elaborate banners from the various Hogwarts houses, two-sided broomsticks, skeletons of tiny creatures, a bird cage, and even an adorable stuffed owl, all set against a wall of greenery. “Worked hard all month with my 5 year old to plan his Harry Potter birthday bash this weekend!” she wrote beside the shot. Yeah, no kidding.

Another shot showed the gift bags and wands. “Wands made with chopsticks, glue guns and spray paint, broomstick pencils, and ‘decorate your own’ goodie bags!!” she explained.

Instead of party hats, they opted for colorful school ties. “Our version of party hats! Ties in the house colors made with felt and glue and hair snap clips to attach to shirts!!” she gushed. (She seemed really excited about the ties … not that we blame her!)

The setup for the food was pretty out of this world. A table that seated at least 24 was decked out with a black tablecloth, cheerful tulips, and skulls in glass cases. “We had a ball at @liveloveplayla , and @amecipizzakitchen took such great care of us!” the proud mama wrote.

As for the food itself, Drew went all out there too. “Micah and I spent afternoons all month making potions, chocolate frogs, golden snitches and flying keys…” she explained beside a shot that showed some of their culinary creations. For real, look at those chocolate frogs. Those are no joke, people.

And then there was the cake. “And seriously– look at this insanely gorgeous cake by @susans_sweets !” the actress noted. Yes, that is the sorting hat on top. And quidditch rings. And the golden snitch. And the Hogwarts Express.

Completing the celebration, Drew and her husband, Peter Lanfer, dressed in costume. “Tonks and Mr Weasley,” she explained for anyone not familiar enough with the series to recognize these beloved characters right away.

While there were no posted shots of their son or his friends, it’s safe to say the party was a huge success. It’s clear now that if Drew’s acting career ever fizzles, she’s got the magic touch for party planning!
