The New York Giants running back, 26, defended his decision to yell at a fan during Sunday’s Giants vs Miami Dolphins Game, claiming the fan was criticizing teammate Daniel Jones, who had to exit the game after a neck injury.

“Stop reaching and trying to make it a me vs fans thing,” Barkley wrote on X (formerly Twitter) as he reposted and responded to a video of him yelling at a fan. “I’m not gonna just sit there and not say anything while you talk crazy to 8 after he just got hurt… buddy knew he was in the wrong," he added, referencing Jones', 26, jersey number.

"I feel fine, in some pain -- it's a physical game," he said,” per the NFL. “(I'll) meet with the doctors and trainers and go from there."

Barkley was unable to join his teammates on the field on Sunday due to recovering from a sprained ankle. Per AP News, the athlete sprained his ankle on Sept. 17 during the New York Giants game against the Arizona Cardinals.

“I think I am doing way better than what other people would expect, especially talking to doctors, I’m further along, but it’s frustrating,” Barkley told local reporters at the time, per AP News. “I’m healing fast, but you want it to be faster.”

The sprained ankle isn't Barkley's first injury either. He notably tore the ACL and injured the MCL in his right knee during the Giants' second game of the 2020-2021 season. "You put your all into something, you try to do it the right way, and then something like that happened," the athlete reflected to PEOPLE at the time.
