Saoirse Ronan Has Been Condemned to a Life of Explaining How to Pronounce Her Name

Saoirse Ronan is an Irishwoman with an Irish name from Ireland. You’d think people would understand that sometimes people from other countries have names that don’t sound like the names typically found here. But no.

Saoirse has had to go over it time and time again, most recently on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday night. “How often do people get it right on the first try?” Colbert asked her. “Hardly ever,” Ronan replied. The she described how people mangle it, as she did on Ellen last week, as she did on The Late Late Show With James Corden in November of last year, and as she did back in 2013 on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

At least Colbert mixed it up at the end when Ronan went over other Irish names and how to properly pronounce them. Sorry, Saoirse. Until we get another famous woman from your native land over here, this will be your burden.
