Santa Fe officials eye Sundance Film Festival

Apr. 29—One of the largest film festivals in the country is open to relocating in the coming years, and Santa Fe officials say they hope to bring it to the city.

Jennifer LaBar-Tapia, director of the Santa Fe Film Office, confirmed the office's interest in the Sundance Film Festival but declined to comment further.

"We would love to host Sundance here," she said. "The Santa Fe Film Office is very excited at the opportunity."

The Sundance Institute, which puts on the festival that is currently held in Park City, Utah, last week opened a request for information that closes May 1 for cities or towns interested in hosting the festival. That will be followed by a request for proposal, with the institute ultimately selecting a host city beginning in 2027.

In 2023, according to a Sundance economic report, "aggregate spending [from the festival] between people from Utah and travelers from outside the state hit a little less than $125.6 million," the local newspaper The Park Record reported.
