‘Santa Clarita Diet’ Renewed For Season 3 By Netflix

Netflix has given a Season 3 order to the darkly comedic series Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. The 10-episode third season of the horror comedy, created by Victor Fresco, is slated to launch in 2019. The entire main cast of the show, including Barrymore, Olyphant, Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, are set to return.

The renewal for Santa Clarita Diet, from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Tracy Katsky’s Kapital-based KatCo, comes less a month and a half after the series’ 10-episode second season was released on March 23. As was the case with Season 2, the show’s writers already have started working on stories and scripts for next season.

In Santa Clarita Diet, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenaged daughter Abby (Hewson), until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way.

Fresco, who serves as showrunner, executive produces with Barrymore through her Flower Films banner, Olyphant, Kaplan, Katsky, and Flower Films’ Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell. Flower Films’ Nancy Juvonen is a producer. Netflix is the studio on Santa Clarita Diet, believed to be one of the streaming service’s most popular comedies.
