She doesn’t have as much pull when it comes to determining if Warner Bros.’ summer release will get its own sequel.
“I don’t know, good question, you need to ask the WB peeps,” Bullock told Yahoo Entertainment when asked whether she thinks we’ll see an Ocean’s 9. (Bullock was promoting her upcoming Netflix thriller Bird Box, which reunites her with her Ocean’s 8 costar Sarah Paulson, and was joined in her interview by her co-star Trevante Rhodes.)
Released in June, Ocean’s 8 was a solid hit for the studio, grossing $139 million in the United States and $296 million worldwide, against a production budget of $70 million.
Following in the tradition of the Eleven trilogy, which added a prominent new character with each entry, we asked Bullock whom she’d like to see join the crew if there is another go-around.
“Someone who is Latina,” Bullock said, indicating that the producers could further diversify a cast that included five white women (Bullock, Paulson, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter) as well as one Indian American (Mindy Kaling), one Asian American (Awkwafina) and one black woman (Rihanna).
“We didn’t have a Latina contingent. We need that. And maybe superyoung. Or maybe someone who’s far more seasoned than we are. Someone who comes in and just surprises. That’s just where I am. There’s so many ways to go.”
Bird Box hits Netflix on Dec. 21. Watch the trailer:
