Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony are teaming up with guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Jason Bonham for a summer tour that will focus largely on the music of Van Halen. They’re calling it The Best of All Worlds. Loverboy is opening up.

“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” Hagar said in a statement. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career, but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I. We were at my Birthday Bash in Cabo for my 76th and looked at each other and high-fived, like, ‘Let’s do it.’ We pulled out a couple of them, and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs. The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard, so it’s time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can.”

Hagar and Anthony previously worked with Satriani in the supergroup Chickenfoot. They cut two albums between 2009 and 2011 and toured across America but never performed a single Van Halen song. Once Chickenfoot ended, Halen and Anthony started playing the Van Halen catalog again with guitarist Vic Johnson and Jason Bonham in Sammy Hagar and the Circle. This new lineup is essentially a mashup of Chickenfoot and the Circle, and it’s the closest thing realistically possible to a Van Halen tour at this point.

In 2022, Satriani revealed that he was approached about participating in a Van Halen tribute show with David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen. “I met with Alex at one point when I went down to L.A.,” Satriani told Q104.3 in New York City. “But I think there’s some internal stuff that needs to get worked out with the family… And many times, I’ve told Alex, ‘Are you sure? Me?’ ‘Cause I don’t perform like Eddie. I’m just a superfan. And I can certainly play the stuff. But Eddie was such an original — just the way he ran around on stage and sang and played. It’s amazing.”

That project never got off the ground, but now Satriani has another chance to tackle Van Halen classics along with select songs from Hagar’s solo career. A press release notes that they’re going to play “Finish What Ya Started,” “5150,” “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy,” “Best of Both Worlds,” “Poundcake,” “Sexy Little Thing,” “One Way To Rock,” “Right Now,” “Good Enough,” and “Eagles Fly.”
