Samantha Bee Confronts Super-PAC Fundraiser
On Monday’s Full Frontal, Samantha Bee met a super-PAC fundraiser who had contributed to the campaigns of Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Jeb Bush. When she heard who he’d worked for, she felt sorry for him.
The fundraiser was able to get millions for Bush. Most of that money was used for advertising — but not all the money was put to good use. Bee shared a piece of direct mail that featured a poorly Photoshopped picture of Bush with a hand that obviously belonged to an African-American man.
Samantha explained the vicious cycle of super-PACs: Each candidate must have a super-PAC to contend with other candidates who also have super-PACs. They all end up trying to out-fundraise each other.
She asked the fundraiser, “Would you be happier if super-PACS didn’t exist at all?” He replied, “Absolutely. I would. Yes.” She added, “You know who agrees with you on that? Every single person in America.”
