Samantha Bee begs long-shot Democratic presidential hopefuls to run for Senate instead

On Full Frontal, Samantha Bee made a plea to the crowded multitude of people vying for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. She simply stated, “Run for Senate, goddammit!”

Next week, 20 candidates are set to take part in the first 2020 Democratic debate — and those are just the candidates that qualified. But according to Bee, futile bids for president are a waste of potential Senate candidates.

Bee joins others who have suggested some long-shot candidates run for Senate instead. She said, “I totally get why you wouldn't want to be in the Senate, you have to do painful things like craft legislation that never goes anywhere and see Chuck Schumer in the gym.”

Bee specifically called out former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, who have not performed well in preliminary presidential polls. Both candidates are well-liked in states where Senate seats are controlled by the GOP, but that they could potentially flip.

Bee said, “We need Democrats who understand voters in places like Colorado and Montana. Otherwise, the next Supreme Court justice will probably just be a Bible taped to a mop handle.”

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on TBS.
