Update: In September 2019, Sam Smith announced that they use they/them pronouns. This content was written in March 2015, before Smith publicly announced their pronouns.

Just when you thought Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down" ballad couldn't sound any more beautiful, along comes John Legend joining in for a duet.

The British singer-songwriter, 22, and the "All of Me" crooner, 36, joined musical forces to rerecord Smith's In the Lonely Hour single to serve as the official song for Red Nose Day 2015, a star-studded comedy event that raises money to help those affected by poverty across Africa and in the U.K., sponsored by the non-profit Comic Relief.

In the official video, which Smith posted to his YouTube channel Monday, shows the Grammy winners can be seen recording in the studio together, along with footage of the duo with young children in one of the African communities to which the Comic Relief organization provides aid.

The duo will perform the special version of the song together on Comic Relief – Face the Funny during the first live telecast of the event Friday on BBC 1.
